The Porter Hotel Portland | Blue Whale Travels
The Porter Hotel Portland is a member of the Hilton Honors program; under the Curio Collection brand. This property has a lot going for it. First of all, it is in an excellent location. It’s a short two blocks from the banks of the Willamette River and within walking distance of numerous great restaurants and coffee shops. In addition, this hotel is very pretty and the staff is welcoming and kind. The room was also very clean when we checked in. Unfortunately, enough went wrong during my stay that I don’t think I will be returning. The first issue that I encountered was that my room was not ready when I checked in even though it was after five o’clock (checkin is at 4). I finally got to my room about 30 minutes after I checked in. The next issue that we ran into was that both of the on-site restaurants and the lobby bar were closed, so the only dining options were the very slim menu at the loud rooftop lounge and the pastries at the coffee shop in the lobby. The last and probably biggest issue that we faced was the housekeeping. When we left for dinner at 6:15 on the second day of our stay, housekeeping had not yet come to our floor. When I returned to my room about two hours later, I was shocked to find that the door to my room was open. And to add to that, they didn’t even finish cleaning the room. They re-folded our towels and straightened the sheets on the bed, but they left two pillows from one of our beds thrown onto the other bed. They also didn’t empty the trash bins. The kind people at the front desk did their best to remedy the issues by offering two $15 breakfast vouchers and comping the valet cost. It seems, however, that the issue stems from poor management. Overall, the experience that I had at the Porter Hotel did not meet my expectations. The room was nice and the people were friendly. Our room was cleaned very well the first day, but very poorly the second. The two restaurants were closed so we had to use the breakfast vouchers that we were given at checkin at the subpar coffee shop. You might have a better experience than I did if you stay here, but there are better options nearby.
