Old Town Reykjavik

All of the reviews here complaining about this place simply didn't do their homework. This is NOT a hotel. You have to walk down the hall to use the bathroom, and there isn't a 24-hour concierge. This is much more like a hostel than a hotel, and I am given to understand in Iceland that's what "guesthouse" means. I found the wifi excellent, the small library and kitchen pleasant surprises, all of the fixtures and the furniture very recent, the duvet fantastic, and the bed extremely comfortable. The facilities were clean and welcoming. For the price and the location this place is hard to beat if you're willing to not have an ensuite bathroom.

Location! Location! Location! The area is so close to EVERYTHING you need and want. Rooms are basic but that's all I was after so it suited me.

I was in a room right next to the toilet and I heard everything. I will return to this place but request a room away from the toilet.

Comfortable bed, central location

Great location, gentle family/owners. Rooms, toilets and showers were clean at all times. Nice little living room downstairs to chill out.

All doors slam VERY loudly because the automatic system on top of them is far too strong (and you can get awakened many times by that). A quiet insincere note at the entrance asks the guests "not to slam the doors" because (even more false) "they tend to close quite hard due to the wind". That has nothing to see with the wind : the owners should just put money to change or correct those automatic closings.
