Rooms and hygiene
The room was not clean enough and needs to be refreshed. There was only one seating option for four people, which meant we had to bring heavy chairs from the balcony. The room was not comfortable for a family of four. Our family, including the children, enjoys outdoor facilities. However, it would be nice if the hotel provided tennis balls.
We stayed at the lodge from January 2nd to 5th, hoping to wrap up our summer holidays on a high note before returning to Sydney. However, our experience was a mix of highs and lows, leaving us with mixed feelings. Our first visit to the lodge was during the COVID pandemic, and we were instantly charmed by the property. The picturesque champagne garden and the lush natural flora gave the place a distinctly European vibe that we adored. We enjoyed a lovely lunch and were eager to return, this time as hotel guests, to fully immerse ourselves in the beauty of the location. When we checked in on January 2nd, the receptionist was warm and welcoming, and we were delighted to receive a room upgrade. Room 205, located upstairs with a balcony overlooking the large swimming pool, seemed like the perfect start to our stay. Unfortunately, our excitement quickly faded upon entering the room. Also, we had dinner at the lodge’s restaurant, Lulu’s. The food was delicious, and the experience was enjoyable, but it was one of the few highlights of an otherwise disappointing stay.
The room layout felt poorly planned. For example, the kettle had to be boiled on the floor because there was no designated spot for it. While cups for tea and coffee were provided, there were no spoons. The mini fridge was awkwardly placed inside a wardrobe not designed to hold it, causing heat to build up inside. The bed was comfortable, but I was surprised to find that the mattress and pillows lacked protectors, a basic hygiene standard for any hotel. The bathroom was even more disappointing. Dirty footprints were visible in the shower, and the floor was covered in hair and sand. The vanity was rusty and outdated, the shower was mouldy, and there was only one soap bottle that had to be moved between the shower and sink. The sink tap was loose and leaking. Additionally, the absence of a room phone meant that any requests for assistance required a trip to the reception desk, which was inconvenient, especially for guests with mobility issues. The lodge’s outdoor amenities had potential but fell short. The free bikes provided were rusty and in poor condition. The playroom, though a fun idea, was chaotic, pool table balls were scattered on the floor, and ping pong rackets were damaged. While I understand it was school holidays, the lack of supervision led to the space being left in disarray. The swimming pool area looked inviting, but the water was murky and filled with tree debris, indicating a lack of proper maintenance. Housekeeping was another letdown. On our second day, we expected our room to be cleaned and refreshed. After waiting most of the day and enquiring at reception, we were assured the room would be cleaned. While relaxing on the balcony, we noticed the cleaner had rolled up our used pool towels and reused them as bath towels. The bed was hastily made, and the entire cleaning process took about three minutes. To make matters worse, the toilet paper wasn’t replenished, leaving us without any for two days...
The staff were very helpful and friendly. My son got sick while we were there and helped facilitate a doctor appointment. The room was a little dirty when I checked in and they also facilitated extra cleaning. The surrounds are incredible - the art was fantastic and the activities abundant. There was a summer holidays kids activities schedule where kids made friendship bracelets and the food was fab - as were the ccktails.
More towels (they ran out when I was there) and a dustpan broom in the rooms as rooms weren't cleaned daily.
The decor was different and funky, different to where I would normally stay. I liked that there was a restaurant and bar on site too. Cocktails and dessert and were delicious.
The room was musty and the dining table had no chairs. The shower was full of mould and so went to Woolworths and got mould away which sorted the problem pretty easily. Just not something I should’ve had to do…
The rooms were not clean the shower was mouldy stains on curtains there were no where safe to plug in the kettle the rooms design is something out of 70s over priced for what you get I would not stay again
Love the location, the pool, Lulu's and FInns and the staff.
The muddiness around the pool, decking and spa. Some simple fixes could drastically improve this. 1. Install more stone steps and ensure they are more elevated. The stone between the pool and spa is too low and become a puddle. If it was higher, the deck and spa would stay a lot cleaner I reckon. 2. More towels. We were 3 guests (2 adults and a toddler, yet only had 2 towels in the room) 3. Improve soundproofing of the rooms. Excited / noisy kids impacted our sleep on both nights.
