Stayed in a swim out - wonderful room, great pool, very quiet. Tenvas at the Point pool bar was great - took care of us 6 or 7 days. Annikay (sp?) and Jennifer and the whole staff at Azul were amazing! Excellent food at Azul - ate there most nights, plenty of variety over a week. Also wonderful gluten free choices and kudos to the Chef for doing modified gluten free when asked. Service was great everywhere - bars, restaurants, front desk, housekeeping, grounds. Loved the iguanas hanging around - chum chum and spooner by the Edge pool especially. Planes were neat to watch come and go - get the FlightAware app to track inbound/outbound - Air France and KLM planes are huge!
Would have LOVED it if there was drink service in the swim outs. It was low season, so maybe they can't justify extra staff, but that would have been perfect to avoid getting out of pool, walking through the room, across bridge and to the bar. Not a lot of variety at the buffets for breakfast. Didn't get to try all the restaurants - again, low season so the schedule didn't allow them to all open every night. Tavern could use better sports TV packages ... and being where it is, it's pretty empty.
Loved the salt fish on the Sunday breakfast menu. Loved feeding the iguanas and friendly parrots that visited us at breakfast. Loved the location of Azul and Blue Fin restaurants. Loved my room.
The air condition in inside area at breakfast was balmy. Did not enjoy the food at Azul and Blue Fin. All of the other restaurants were closed during our stay. Not sure why hotel was designated as adults only.
AC was not working in 415 which had a lovely unobstructed view. Had to repack my stuff and was moved to 319 where the AC worked. View was not as good but comfort is paramount. AC was ok and room never got cooler than 72. Bed was firm which I prefer but pillows were flat. Used 3 to sleep, leaving my hubby with only 1. Food was ok, nothing special. Worst of all were the unfriendly bartenders! They were miserable and impolite except for Frank who worked in the lobby. We tipped everyone we asked for a beverage. Housekeeping yelled at me because I needed to go into the room while she was cleaning for 5 mins to change into my white outfit for the birthday beach party I was there for! Entertainment at the resort was ok at night, not much happening during the day. My hubby was playing music on his pocket speaker for our personal enjoyment and a rude security guard told us to turn it off or else! He was impolite and threatening. Mind you the volume was very low and we werent disturbing anyone! Other guests at the adult pool commented how bored they were and all were desperate for a bit of fun. Unfortunately, the Sonesta is where fun goes to die. We will never return! Recommend Morgan boutique hotel, in the area. There were a few bars and restaurants outside the hotel we went to at night. Hotel casino bartender was miserable. I would say its a management issue when majority of staff are miserable and rude. Very disappointing.
