Newly renovated Homestay in a traditional Fijian village with authentic and much Fijian food. Very welcoming lovely people.
This booking is all about the cultural experience!!! Kind heartwarming friendships around every corner. Eat with families and learn about Fijian village culture. Clean and cute beach front Fijian hut. Safe. Attached bathroom with shower. Simple housing and outstanding accommodation!
Nothing not to like. Basic. Not for luxury tourists.
This was by far the most Authentic Fiji Experience I had in my 2 weeks in Fiji, I loved being amongst the community in the village and seeing how the families work together and share together. So many people laughing and welcoming. The Hosts Elia and Salome were amazing and very beautiful people. It was also wonderful to meet some of their family and the food was the best I had in Fiji. The highlight was the Octopus in coconut milk!!! Also the visit to Blue Lagoon to snorkel with all the tropical fish and the boat trip to the Caves (a MUST!) Looking forward to coming back next year in July.
Leaving.
Pole-Pole (slow, slow) time. Having meals with the villagers in their homes - it is a privilege. Beautiful snorkeling. Wholesome meals. The laughing little ones from the village.
Mere and her family welcomed us into her family home (Quelini homestay and village). We had researched the homestay so we were aware of what they entail (limited electricity, basic accommodation and facilities) and were able to prepare our children (15, 14 and 9 years old). It was the overall experience that our family loved. We went hiking, experienced a local village fundraiser, how to prepare coconuts, kava ceremony and cooking lesson. Our bure was right on the beach next to Malevu Village so we interacted with the local school children every day. At night we hung out with the host family and shared stories and played (and taught) card games. The highlight was the snorkelling right off the beach in front of our homestay. Make sure you get cash on the mainland (most ATM's have a limit of $1000 Fijian dollars) so you will need to do 2 transactions at least especially if you get the Seabus as they only take cash. We stayed for 3 nights and it was the perfect length of time.
There wasn't anything to dislike as we knew what to expect. I think if you are expecting luxury, this is not for you. It is very, very basic and you share the space (not the bedrooms or toilet). Whilst the food was lovely and there was plenty of it, it was very similar each day. There is lots of fish included (fresh and tinned tuna). Our kids were not overly keen with the fish but we loved it.
The area was amazing during the day. Beautiful places. Activities available and interesting. The guide very experienced. Meals were very delicious. People really friendly and kind. Everyone was very caring when I said I am pregnant.
In the night it was scary. Mouse, beetles, cockroaches and lizards were coming from the holes. We heard a lot of noise from the lizards and storm. Everywhere was the street dogs which looked very sick and they were watching us during eating and lying in our beach even shiting. I higly reccommend to get them out from the place. I felt in a risk because of their sickness look.
The family was very kind and welcoming. The food was amazing.
Hard for vegetarians or picky eaters. Food is very authentic.
great family, particularly the grand children
booked a sea side bure, i was told on the day that it had changed to a house to my self a short walk to the beach. turned out to be a small bed room in a crowed family house. food was simple and generally the same, rice, corned beef, donuts, casava, eggs, etc. toilet is about 50 years old. doesn't flush, no light and shared by everybody.. shower room buckets full of water and thats it, i was told it is fiji style, having been to india i would say more like third world.
