Locations and premises
Very badly organised as they made a mistake with reservation and had to re- do the reservation. This last one much more expensive than the original one. No reimbursement - I should not have stayed yet was too late to find another hotel
The hotel is a historic property and landmark with plenty of character. The tropicana pool, painted by David Hockney and surrounding landscaping certainly are glamourous. It's an excellent location for exploring Hollywood and universal and towers over the walk of fame. The staff were very attentive and it was nice at the end of the day to sit and have a drink by the pool or in the lobby. The teens with us loved the atmosphere and decor and were very impressed with the Twenty Five Degrees burger bar.
The major blight during our stay was that only one lift worked during the duration of our stay and at one point no lifts were working. It was an incovenience for us but was distressing for guests with accessibility issues. When unencumbered by luggage we could use the stairs, but it isn't the sort of experience I had anticipated at such a prestigious hotel with a resort fee. It was clear that there had been issues for at least a fortnight. We still spent a significant amount of time queuing for the lift though and this caused us much frustration, especially when trying to leave and pickup our hire car. The hotel hosts private events as many similar properties do, but on the Saturday night the music was especially loud and the lobby unpleasantly overcrowded. (Compounded by the lack of working elevators) I disliked the fact that the refrigerator and surrounding space in both our rooms were crammed with expensive drinks, snacks and merch. It took up too much space in the room and left the impression the property was grasping for cash. It was pretty unnecessary as we took refreshment in the bars and cafe anyway.
Historical hotel in the centre of Hollywood. Cool vibe at the pool and location to attractions.
Large variation in staff attitude to customer service. Faulty A/C in room 804, though only on last night.
Not much. Lobby was nice.
Smell, 1 elevator, spent 3 hours a day trying to get to the 8th floor. Stairs doors were locked, no coffee in rooms so much more.
Only a SINGLE, very small, working elevator for the entire hotel! Including for the staff. Unbelievable and unacceptable considering the high price of the room. The room itself was very small, with BROWN STAINS on the sheets. The hotel scams guests with the valet system that's $75/night; they have arrangements with the 3 public parking garages in the area to fix prices and essentially force you to use the valet because it's the cheapest option. They refuse to bring guests more than two bottles of comped water - lmao! Don't stay here if you value your money, time, and dignity.
