The setting of the converted jail looked good on the outside and on first glance
There where multiple surfaces within the hotel foyer with dust and crumbs, probably due to the fact that there were only two members of staff trying to clean the whole hotel and one person inspecting their work. Our booked evening meal should have started at 20:15, we arrived early to the restaurant bar as instructed werent taken to our table until 20:45 by the only member of bar staff on duty. The Matred came over and asked what wine we wanted oh we dont have that, but as we left there were two bottles of that wine on the display. He came back to take our food order went off, 30 mins later returned to say he forgot to put the order into the kitchen. By the time we got our food it was past 22:00 and we hardly eat due to the late hour, this whole evening was interrupted by the Matred running through the restaurant as he was the only one taking orders. The next morning I complained to the receptionist on check out she gave me 10% of the food bill, then gave me the restaurant managers email to follow up. We are now three weeks on since I sent my email and still no response from anyone at the hotel, a nice decor to the building spoilt by the restaurant service and a price for a one night stay that makes the eye water.
The whole place was beautiful, and sympathetic to its original form/use Beds were extremely comfortable, rooms were wrll equipped.
Unfortunatley were a little disappointed with our evening dining experience. We ate in the Bistro, it lacked ambience and warmth..felt more like a diner. The food was delicious, portions a tad small, also main courses not very hot. Service was excellent though
Beautiful historic building. Original features have been emphasised and there was a plaque with some information about a prisoner that had been kept in the cell. Very comfortable bed. Amazing bathroom. Easy access to jail attraction.
Staff in the hotel were exceptional , couldn't be more helpful. The hotel itself was very clean, with amazing rooms, comfortable beds, bathrobes and exceptional towels, everything you need for a relaxing weekend. The food was excellent, and the bar man was amazing.
The service in the Chapel restaurant was appalling, I must stress it was only the evening staff. The morning staff were exceptional. Waited 40 mins to be seated, another 20 to get a menu, we didn't even get to have a pudding as it was extremely late, and we had a young child with us who was tired. The attitude of the staff and manager was shocking. Hopefully, they will sort this out and get better reviews. Shame as this put a real dampener on our stay.
