Location was ok. It looked nice enough.
The Allen Hotel advertised the room as a Double that would sleep up to 4 adults. When we checked in, the room had 2 TWIN beds in it, and all the front desk would say was "Sorry it's not meeting your expectations." When Booking.com's Helpline was called, the front desk said she could email the manager but he'd already left for the day (it was 6:30pm) and he probably wouldn't see it till sometime tomorrow, then she hung up on my daughter. I called the Booking.com Helpline and he called The Allen Hotel. The front desk woman told the Booking.com guy one of us could sleep on the couch in the lobby! Booking.com guy said he was going to try to get us some sort of perks or amenities (e.g., a free sauna or massage) to make up for this "inconvenience" but got really snarky when asked how else was Booking.com going to address this situation. In the end, NO REFUND (not even a partial), NO ASSISTANCE, NO PERKS, NO HELP FINDING ANOTHER PLACE, NOTHING!
Great location and rooms were nice.
Hopeless service. Our check in was delayed because the room wasn't ready. After 30 mins waiting in the lobby we got checked in. Then 10 minutes after we got into the room the person who checked us in knocked on the door and before waiting for an answer just walked in! They wanted to see if the room was ready but they had literally just checked us into it - very strange. Furthermore I had to give my credit card details on check in - which I thought was fine and just for security but they took a deposit from me without explaining that they would do that and then paid me back a slightly different amount. Also the hotel was advertised as having continental breakfast available. We questioned the front desk and they said breakfast had stopped since covid. That was years ago now so they should have taken it off all their listings and material long before now. It also said robes and slippers provided but we didn't get any.
I've stayed in so many hotels in NYC and my expectations are "a comfortable box." The room at The Allen Hotel was huge, quiet and clean. Like nothing I've experienced in NY before. Such a great value, great room, great friendly staff.
