Good location in Portree with nearby public parking available which is free overnight but you will need to pay until the free hours. Beds in dorm were comfortable.
The bathrooms are all ensuite to the dorms which is convenient but means you are waiting to share between dorm mates (I waited 45 minutes one morning) and means that there is noise late or overnight if someone uses the toilet. There was also black mould growing along the ceiling of the toilet in my dorm. My dorm was next to the kitchen and my bed happened to be along the adjoining wall - someone was cooking and slamming pots and pans at 9pm which was not ideal and a bit inconsiderate. The host wasn’t very helpful in figuring out how the car park timing/payment worked either which I thought was a bit subpar given almost everyone visiting has a car and the car park is directly next to the hostel - hosts at other Hostelling Scotland were much friendlier! This is more a reflection on hostels in general but one of my dorm mates was sick as a dog and sharing a small space puts the rest of us at risk - should there be a sick policy for dorms? Also the dorm slept 4 but there were only 2 lockers. This is common at Hostelling Scotland - I’ve been to 3 now and none of them had sufficient lockers for the number of beds.
