Great hotel, great location, staff very lovely.
The Drum & Bass Club next door which started blasting at 7am. Ask for a room at the rear of the hotel unless you are an early riser!
The Neya Porto was a nice 6-night stay for me and my wife. I thought the location was great, right on the river, a 10 minute walk to Infante Square. Also a funky tram right in front took us West to Foz for a sunset dinner at the beach. Still, the hotel was a little out of town, so it was quiet at night (which we liked). While 6 nights in Porto is a lot for most people (at least Americans); every other day we took a day tour with Living Tours (to Braga, Douro Valley, Santiago de Compostello). Our room, as several rooms on the 3rd floor, had a small glass balcony, which was awesome. No chair or table out there, so we had to drag one out. But it was so nice, particularly at night, to stand or sit out there and view the river and the lights of Nova de Gaia. The hotel provided a complimentary half-bottle of port wine and some fresh Pastella do Nato pastries--a thoughtful touch. The breakfast was included in our price and had a good variety of cooked and cold items, the coffee machine whipped up a decent cappuchino. But the best thing about breakfast was the view--large windows overlooking the Douro River and quaint tram line, boats passing by, and pilgrims walking toward Santiago De Compostello in Spain. While we did not use them, the Neya also has bicycles to use.
Although we were happy there, there were some deficiencies. The biggest defect was the WIFA... they had "free" WIFI but it required no password... which means NOT SECURE. The security was so bad that My iPhone and iPad did not even allow me to use the WIFI! This is 2025, have they not heard of cyber security? Next problem was the food, at the Skybar (and presumably the restaurant). The Skybar offers nice views of the river and Gaia, but the food was not good. The pizza tasted like cardboard, and we observed at least two other clients were also complaining about the food and service. Because of this, we did not even try the Neya restaurant--god knows there are plenty of other places to eat in Porto. As I said, the breakfast was good, but it opens at 7am, which was not early enough for us on the 2-3 days we took tours out of Porto. The bathroom had the typical defects of a European apartment or hotel: it was small; no room to put your toiletries; no shelf in the shower to put your own personal soap, shampoo, conditioner, etc.; no place other than inside the shower to hang your towel to dry for reuse (something their "sustainability" guide advised us to do). However, water pressure and temperature were good. In the bathroom and the bedroom, there was not enough plugs so you have to unplug lights to charge your devices. While our room was supposed to have a refrigerator, it did not actually keep things cold, a situation the front desk seemed to think was normal.
When I work at Alfandega, this is usually my "go to" hotel since it's walking distance and it's very comfortable. Breakfast is also nice, with amazing river view.
My room, smelled like a closed roo with humidity and despite I understand that the grant releases humidity, I really don't like sleeping in a room full of humidity and smelling. I reported to the reception staff and I hope my next stay here in November to be better.
The conversion carried out to create this hotel has been done very well. The Skybar on Level 5 especially is a great place to hang out. We were fortunate enough to be staying on L5 too. The guestroom is well furnished but the bathroom is a tad on the small side but they have worked with the space constraints. The design in very contemporary with use of exposed and polished concrete which I am not a fan of. The hotel staff are very attentive and courteous and avail themselves to assist you. We did not eat in the hotel save for breakfast because there are so many options in Porto not to be missed. The breakfast was adequate in my opinion but for a 4* hotel to charge for cooked food such as eggs, omelette, etc. is ridiculous in this day and age so I marked the score down as a result. Location wise, it is 1-2 kms away from the old city but you can catch the 500 bus close to the hotel for €2.50 which will drop you off at Santo Beno station nr. the Cathedral.
Location is amazing to attend conferences at Alfandega do Porto. 4 min walking, without climbing the hill and amazing view.
Pillows are a bit too high and the curtains in the room don't fully block the light on the corners (minimal spillage but if you are used to total darkness you will feel it
