Located in Jukkasjärvi in northern Sweden the Icehotel features rooms entirely made out of sculptured ice from the neighboring Torne River. Warm rooms are also offered. A bookable sauna experience featuring a sauna wood-burning hot tub and ice bath is available for a fee. Guests can enjoy a complimentary entrance ticket to the Icehotel. The area around the property is popular for outdoor winter activities such as dog sledding reindeer sled excursions and snowmobile tours. The staff will also be happy to arrange activities such as river rafting hiking and fishing. During summer season guests will experience midnight sun. The warm accommodation was great. The sled dog adventure and the Sami museum/reindeer farm just down the road made the experience worth it.
The stay in the ice room is completely overhyped. It was not comfortable, you couldn't have any items with you (including your over coats) so there's nothing to do but get in your sleeping bag. When you turn down the lights to go to sleep, I expected some kind of remaining light so you could see *something.* Instead it was pitch black, very cold (expected) and very quiet. It was like sleeping in a tomb, rather than something exciting and fun. Only one icehotel restaurant was open, and the breakfast was great, lunch was okay, and dinner was not worth the high price tag. I would have expected some more relaxed dining options due to the nature of traipsing around in the snow all day, but an unnecessarily upscale restaurant was the only dinner choice.
The location and the Northern Lights
They dont clean the rooms and if you need toilet paper or more coffee you need to go and ask for it. They also dont have an open restaurant the entire day
Great location
Arctic Chalet
The restaurant was pleasant and the food was tasty. The ice sculptures were quite interesting - a great work from all the artists.
The cleaning team just changed the bed sheets and towels in between guests. There was no shower gel or shampoo, the toilet was in a miserable condition (urine and feces everywhere), there was a massive amount of hair in the shower's drain - as well as empty bottles of some toiletries from the previous guests - , there was a used toothbrush under the wash basin, there were massive amounts of dust (especially behind the doors, that didn't appear to have been moved in some time). We did inform two receptionists that we were not pleased, but only a short apology was offered.
Breakfast, scenery, design
Bedlight not working, key card access temperamental, staff could be trained better, sauna wasn't warm during opening hours
Room was cozy, beds were comfortable. Breakfast was exceptional. Got to see northern lights from the property.
Warm rooms are quite old and dated. Bathroom was cold. The property said they dim lights at night but the Ice Hotel is brightly lit and lights the whole foreshore making it difficult to see the sky.
