We liked the garden with the waterfall area and trees and the balcony overlooking that area. We spent a good deal of time birdwatching from the balcony. It looks as though many native plants are growing there which we love, and this attracts birds. I also liked the hallway with the windows attaching the main lobby to the rooms. I found the historical display downstairs very interesting and informative. The grounds and the area are beautiful. We stopped at Twiggs Overlook.
The room was somewhat dated, and the view was out the back with two construction fences. Unfortunate because we might have used the patio more. We ate dinner in the restaurant to mixed reviews. It was quite expensive--we shared the mussels which were very good, and my husband liked his shrimp and grits. I found my she crab soup so salty and rich that I couldn't finish it, and also found the cheesecake too rich and just so-so. My husband liked his bread pudding.
The location is beautiful. We found a great coffee place nearby (The Fix) and enjoyed the guided horse tour at the stables very much.
Minor item: At first we got a room facing the parking lot. We asked to move and they moved us quickly with no problems to a room with a beautiful view closer to the pool. Unfortunately, the carpet there was somewhat wet. Possibly related to very heavy storms that night. We did not complain about the carpet to the stuff, so they didn't know and did not try to address it.
cleanliness
AC system did not cool the room adequately
It is out of the way. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Those doorman/valets, bless their hearts, they need raises. They were super friendly and went above and beyond to help me since I was limping so badly. I appreciate that the staff got a room for us that I could get in and out of. No stairs for me! We loved every minute otherwise.
We could hear every single sound from the room beside us and over us. We could hear the people going up and down the hall. I know it's an older facility. I didn't expect perfection, but surely there is a way to block the noise? The lighting in the rooms is very dark even with the lamps on at night. The bathroom lights, however, were more than adequate. We didn't eat there due to mixed recent reviews and honestly, prices were a bit outside our budget. There is a very nice restaurant about half a mile away that was superb so we ate there during our stay.
The surroundings were beautiful and very peaceful
A bit pricey
