downstairs was stunning, location was brilliant. room was a little stripped back but still very comfortable. the beds were incredibly comfortable. very quiet room.
room door left unlocked by cleaner at one point. no one got in
Roof bar gave splendid views, and location of hotel was very convenient for access to conference centre, NFL stadium, WWII museum and french district. There were two convenience stores across the road and plenty of jazz music coming from the downstairs lounge.
The location made it easy to walk to several bars, markets, and attractions.
TL;DR - My hotel room was unlocked by someone, other than me and my travel companion, while we were at a concert and I was robbed. The staff is terrible. The beds aren't comfortable. While I was out at a concert, my hotel room was broken into and several items were stolen, including bank and credit cards, electronics, and jewelry. I discovered this when I got back, around midnight. I immediately went downstairs to the front desk manager and explained what happened. He called the security guard on duty and they had, what seemed to be, an enjoyable conversation, based on the laughter that ensued. Once they realized that I was watching, they stopped laughing and the security guard approached me. He said that he would meet me upstairs and read the lock (the little pad where you swipe your key to get in) to check for activity. After about 10 minutes I went back to the front desk to see where he was, and was told to wait a few more minutes. After about another 10 minutes, he came upstairs to read the locks, and asked me to write a statement. He then said that he needed to go into his office to read the results. It was probably about 30 more minutes that had passed before I finally got to speak with him again. He said that I unlocked the door at 4:40 pm and then left it open. I told him that I wasn't in the hotel at that time, and showed him a time stamped photo that I took from the Superdome, which was approximately a 15 minute walk away, at 4:39. From there I just continued to get the run around for another hour and a half. After hearing nothing for two days I called the hotel again to check and was told that there were no cameras on my room, and that they were checking with hotel staff but, as it was an "ongoing investigation" he could not give me more details. I let him know that there was an individual vacuuming outside of my room when I left that day(I informed the security guard the night of the incident as well) and he didn't seem to care.
We liked the firm king size mattress and the shower.
Staff were indifferent at best, quasi-hostile otherwise. The lounge, on both weekend afternoons/evenings, had events that were loud and crowded, and eliminated the lounge as a place to rest for a moment. The loud music made its way to the 5th floor ( the bass) which persisted into the evening. Our TV did not work the entire time. The room was not supplied with caffeinated coffee pods, so they had to be requested. The lighting in the room, hallways, and public spaces was dim -always. The toilet and shower are in same space closed off by a pocket door ( not ideal), and only a curtain to separate the bathroom area from the room. Floors are a cork tile -did not absorb sound well -and sound carried in the large cavernous room. No one came to tidy the room and we had no idea if that was policy or in attention. Very little hospitality was experienced on this trip. Would not recommend it.
