Cleanliness and quick response to requests
The room above us was creaking so loudly when someone walks. You can also hear the toilet flushing. The individuals above kept walking back and forth. I requested for a room change but was told that there are no available room of that same size. We booked a family standard room with two king size bed and a pull out bed. I requested for a downgrade but was told there was none available. The best they can do was to talk to the individuals above us which didn’t seemed to have occurred as the individuals kept walking back and forth throughout the night and early morning.
The location was great; within 10mins walk to the Broadwalk and beach. The hotel upgraded our room with a patio on the ground floor as I was traveling with dogs and wanted easy potty break access. We got to briefly use the jacuzzi, but the jets weren’t that strong and the chlorine seems a little on the stronger side. But it was fine for a quick dip to relax at the end of day. Facilities in the room are pretty standard: ironing board, tv, kettle, fridge, microwave, hairdryer and hangers.
Nothing
I had a confirmed, prepaid reservation at Hotel Solares through Booking.com. Everything was paid in advance and confirmed by both the platform and the hotel. When I got to the hotel they told me there was a "system glitch" and that if I wanted to stay, I’d have to pay an additional $110 — or cancel the reservation. Booking said it was the hotel decision to raise the price and that they had nothing to do and no way to help. The hotel staff refused to honor the booking and told me it wasn’t their fault. They were unprofessional, dismissive, and even raised their voice at me when I calmly asked for clarification or written proof of the cancellation. I was left stranded at 9 PM in Santa Cruz, without a room and no assistance from either the hotel or Booking.com. Despite repeated follow-ups, I’ve received no refund for the reservation or for the emergency hotel I had to book last-minute. I understand that mistakes can happen, but the way this situation was handled — with no accountability, no help, and completely unprofessional behavior — is unacceptable. I strongly discourage anyone from booking a stay here, especially if you value customer service or expect your confirmed booking to be respected.
