Location
They refused to turn up the heat when I was cold.
cosy boutique hotel in the central square of Geldrop, a very cute small city in the outskirts of Eindhoven. Very quiet rooms.
room size not too generous and rather limited breakfast
The look of the building was good, nice bar area , had some food and it was excellent
The industrial style rooms were not entirely to my liking
I had a very friendly welcome and a parking spot inside the cord yard was offered too for my motorcycle. The breakfast was very nice with tons of goodies and real eggs and real bacon and prepared with love :)
We've been regular customer here over the last 8 years as we work several times a year in Germany and drive our equipment there from the U.K This is the perfect location for a stop on our way. It is close enough to the motorway without being next to it. We've had good experiences with staff, rooms, food etc in the past which is why we've always really looked forward to the familiarity of staying here again after the long drive, it's our on tour treat. However it seems that new staff aren't so bothered to keep the good standards and care of previous visits. No one from management stepped up to make a really bad experience this time any better either despite multiple staff being aware of what we encountered. Pretty gutted to lose this place.
Our executive room smelled very strongly of sewage/bad drains as soon as you opened the door. It is an issue we've had once before here in a different room in December but they moved us then, perhaps its an ongoing issue? This time the tall young man who came to the room to check it screwed his face at the smell then said just to open the doors to air it, that the hotel was full so no option to move rooms. He couldn't get out there fast enough and he left us struggling to open the external doors which opened onto the car park so we had to bring all our luggage back into the bar for security whilst it aired. After having a drink with our bags at our feet we asked a young waitress to reserve us a specific table for dinner, the couple on it were just leaving and it was set in a nice position for the ambience outside without being in the force of the rain. She agreed, we explained we were going to go and put our luggage in the room and return. When we did the table had another couple on it. The waitress said that she had been clearing it and they had sat down at it so there was nothing she could do. I pointed out that she could have informed them she'd reserved it and offered them one of the other tables she was trying to get us to move to that weren't as nice! Rather gutted as there wasn't another option available that was equal to this table we decided to eat at a different bar/restaurant across the square which serves excellent burgers, at better value that the ones we'd had at Hotel Nijvers in previous visits. When we returned to our room the smell was back whilst external doors had been closed. With no other choice we had to sleep in there with the very strong drain/sewage smell. Not 1 of the 4 different staff members we spoke to from check in to check out offered any solutions, no recompense, charged full price for the room, breakfast and drinks. Said they'd tell a manager who would get in contact. Not a word since.
