Friendliness and helpfulness of all the staff; loved relaxing and meeting new people in the private library lounge; very nice room overlooking the Public Garden with a cushioned bench seat by the large windows to enjoy the wonderful view
Bathroom could be larger with hooks to hang clothes/robes
The location
For the first 3 days of my 6 night stay I woke up to a labor protest in front of the hotel. They started around 6am and continued until 9pm. Banging buckets and yelling in bull horns. I traveled from the west coast time zone so 6am was 3am for me. They assured me that the hotel was fully staffed and nothing would be comprised. Well, I didn’t get my room serviced the first day and the second day it looked like a 5 year old made the bed. Turn down happened only 2 nights. The staff cleaning the rooms were definitely not trained well at all.
It’s a beautiful renovation of an old gem at a great downtown location, right across from the Boston Gardens, a lovely park. The rooms are pretty, great finishes, neutral and calm. A view of the garden is extra, but pretty to see the lush landscape across the street. The rooftop restaurant was excellent and well designed.
Unfortunately, there were many problems with my stay. Shortly after arrival to my beautiful room overlooking the park, I noticed the vanity sink was backing up because the stopper was stuck. When I tried to call the front desk for help, the phone would not work. I had to find a number for the hotel and call from my cell. Housekeeping did come to repair the sink and said they would need to get a new phone. Things got worse that night. The bed was uncomfortable as I could feel the plastic mattress protector through the sheets. But the worst p, unacceptable part was horrific loud banging noise all night long. At first, I thought someone was breaking in the window! But I was many floors up. It happened about every half an hour so I could barely get a wink. I suspect the loud banging noise was due to a plumbing problem coming through a stack vent by the window. I couldn’t wait to check out! I complained to staff but all they did was comp me an appetizer and drink I had at the bar the first night. The staff although pleasant, acted surprised like he never heard this before. Supposedly management would be calling me but they never attempted. I assume this is an ongoing issue. Very sad for a luxury level, extremely expensive hotel, where we expect superb service. I don’t recommend this hotel.
