Embarking on our first family vacation with both kids, we landed in the stunning Grand Cayman Islands. With packed suitcases, a new double stroller just for our travels, and both excitement and apprehension about our solo journey, we were ready to explore. Navigating air travel with young ones is an art, requiring layers for changing climates and strategic airport arrivals to make use of essential comforts like the American Express Centurion Lounge.
While the logistics with little ones can be daunting, armed with the right prep, parents can tackle airline policies with ease. Traveling with lap infants presents challenges but also offers certain cost benefits. Although our tickets were inexpensive, navigating seating arrangements required flexibility since airlines adhere strictly to safety measures, such as oxygen availability. Despite this, our son enjoyed his very own seat as he turned two, marking a milestone on this trip.
Our stay at the Kimpton Seafire Resort and Spa was nothing short of spectacular. Known for its kid-friendly amenities, the property is equipped with a water park and stylish rooms offering breathtaking oceanfront views. We luxuriated in an upgraded King Premium Ocean Front Room, complete with a wet bar and double vanity, making our stay as leisurely as possible. The hearty breakfast spread, inclusive with IHG Elite benefits, kept us fueled throughout our explorations.
Families with young children particularly benefit from this resort's features, including free breakfast for kids and ample meal options in the buffet. The happy hour at the beach restaurant, featuring free wine and small bites, carved out adult time while the hotel’s babysitting service took care of our little ones, making relaxation truly achievable.
A trip to the Cayman Islands wouldn't be complete without a visit to the Cayman Turtle Centre. Hugely popular with both families and adults, this attraction enables close encounters with marine life. Atlas was captivated by the massive turtles, while we found joy in interactive exhibits and feeding opportunities. From stunning bird displays to snorkeling, the center offers diverse activities suited for everyone. It is a clear highlight for anyone visiting the Cayman Islands.
With kids settled at camp, we snuck away for a culinary adventure at The Westin Grand Cayman Seven Mile Beach Resort & Spa. The ambiance contrasted with Kimpton, as the lively crowd enjoyed sophisticated menus. While Mr. O savored a perfectly cooked steak, I opted for the expertly prepared red snapper. Despite the bustling vibe, the meal's quality was undeniable, and the beachfront setting made for a pleasing yet restrained adult-only evening retreat.
Our stay concluded with a perfect seaside lunch at the beach restaurant and trying out the complimentary non-motorized water sports offered by Kimpton. Exploring on a pedal-powered water craft amidst scenic views of Seven Mile Beach was exhilarating. This experience was enriched by our kids' happy exclamations and the beautiful sunshine that the Cayman Islands boasts almost year-round.
Kimpton Seafire Resort and Spa ensured our stay was memorable, with thoughtful details like welcome cookies for our children and swim diapers at the pool. These touches combined with stunning scenery and varied activities left us already planning our next visit. Whether a couple’s retreat or family getaway, the Cayman Islands - with its pristine beaches and top-notch resorts - offers an unforgettable experience.
Reflecting on our trip, it was not only possible but enjoyable to travel with our young family. Proper planning and taking advantage of family-friendly services like those at Kimpton and local attractions led to an unforgettable experience. From plane rides to dinners, the Cayman Islands proved to be an appealing destination, beautifully catering to the unique needs of family travelers while fully embodying luxury. We can't wait for our next adventure, inspired by the peace and pleasure found in this island paradise.
