Welcome to the bustling city of Tokyo, a place where modernity meets tradition and every street harbors a surprise waiting to be uncovered. Our journey begins at the cozy RakuNyan House, an idyllic haven for those like me who embrace the art of tattoos and yearn for a private onsen experience. Spending time here feels like a warm embrace, a fitting start to what promises to be an unforgettable 10-day adventure exploring Tokyo and its outer areas.
Our culinary exploration of Tokyo leads us to an unexpected delight—a Greek tavern known as Greek Tavern Miu. Nestled amidst the city's vibrant neighborhoods, this culinary gem is a rare find, being one of only three Greek restaurants in all of Tokyo. We eagerly stepped into the tavern to indulge our taste buds with authentic Greek cuisine, savoring dishes like shrimp saganaki and hearty gyros paired with a crisp glass of Greek white wine, all set in a welcoming atmosphere complete with a festive Christmas tree.
As dusk settled, we found ourselves in the upscale neighborhood of Roppongi Hills, known for its impressive skyline and artistic flair. Despite the early hour, the area was already preparing for its dazzling Christmas transformation. The Mori Garden Illumination promised a dazzling display of lights, while the Mori Art Museum and Tokyo City View awaited with cultural offerings. This juxtaposition of art and holiday spirit made our stroll feel like we were part of a living postcard of Tokyo’s winter charm.
No visit to Tokyo is complete without a glimpse of the iconic Tokyo Tower. From the Metro Hat Hollywood Plaza, the tower stood proud on the horizon, reminding us of the city's breathtaking mix of architecture. It was a sentimental moment, reminiscing about our previous visit to its heights back in 2016. We wandered through the adjacent shopping district, where the festive spirit extended to a vibrant Christmas market, offering everything from German potato pancakes to artisan crafts. This area encapsulated Tokyo's cosmopolitan blend and the hospitality that left us feeling at home.
Ending our day in Tokyo felt like embracing an old friend. The warmth of its people, the culinary surprises, and the festive lights collectively painted a picture of a city that thrives on inclusivity and shared joy. Every interaction was marked by a friendliness that transcended language, making our Tokyo adventure one to remember. As we look forward to another day of exploration, we're grateful for the memories crafted amidst Tokyo's unique allure, celebrating a season of cheer and unity. Tomorrow brings another story, another discovery, but tonight, we rest knowing we are truly welcome in this vibrant city.
