Upon arriving in Jaisalmer, we settled into the Guulab Haveli, a luxurious haven providing a charming blend of modern comforts and traditional Rajasthani aesthetics. The hotel's attentive staff ensured that our stay was nothing short of extraordinary, with sumptuous rooms overlooking the majestic Jaisalmer Fort. Each corner of the Guulab Haveli invites guests to indulge in Jaisalmer's golden past, offering picturesque views from its splendid rooftop, perfect for those fairy-tale moments.
Jaisalmer's gastronomic offerings are a treat for the tastebuds, with many local restaurants serving exclusively vegetarian dishes. One of our favourites was the restaurant opposite the Guulab Haveli, where we savoured a traditional dish called palak paneer. The satisfaction of indulging in these hearty meals, often surrounded by locals, makes dining in Jaisalmer an essential cultural experience not to be missed.
Wandering within the walls of Jaisalmer Fort is like stepping back into a vibrant epoch, where every stone tells tales of fortitude and royal splendor. Exploring the Maharaja Mahal provides a deep dive into the city's regal history, revealing breathtaking panoramic views of the fort's complex. Meanwhile, a walk through the fort's narrow streets afforded glimpses of everyday life that continue with a timeless pace and character.
For those who wish to start their day with serenity, Gadisar Lake offers an ideal spot for sunrise viewing. This artificial lake draws visitors with its tranquil waters and rich history. Originally built to supply water to the city, it continues to be supported by the Indira Gandhi canal. The lake is surrounded by picturesque temples and shrines, making it a calming retreat steeped in spirituality.
Jaisalmer is renowned for its exquisite havelis, each an eloquent testament to the city's architectural prowess. The Kothari's Patwa Ki Haveli provides a spellbinding glimpse into the luxurious lifestyles of Jaisalmer's historical elite. The Jain Temples within Jaisalmer Fort, encompass a stunning complex of seven temples, renowned for their breathtaking intricate carvings. These sacred structures, built from the region's iconic yellow sandstone between the 12th and 16th centuries, captivate both tourists and religious devotees alike. The temples also showcase gorgeous frescoes and detailed mirrors, making them a must-visit for any traveler seeking a glimpse into India's rich spiritual heritage.
This hotel offers exceptional value for money, featuring stunning views of the town and charming traditional architecture. Conveniently located just a short distance from Jaisalmer Fort and very close to the Suli Dungri Sunset Viewpoint. We were pleasantly surprised by a complimentary room upgrade, granting us a spacious and beautifully furnished suite. Dinner at the rooftop restaurant was a highlight, with delicious meals at reasonable prices.
Located on the outskirts of the city, Bada Bagh is a beautiful garden complex famous for its royal cenotaphs that highlight the history of Jaisalmer. The site includes a reservoir that created a lush oasis in the desert. Crafted from sandstone, these cenotaphs are not only a tribute to Rajput heritage but also a peaceful historical retreat in Rajasthan. Amar Sagar Jain Temple is another remarkable destination outside the city. This temple stands as a testament to the incredible craftsmanship that characterizes Jain architecture. As one of Jainism's sacred sites, it offers a peaceful escape into spirituality and art, inviting visitors to ponder the intricate stone carvings that convey timeless stories and teachings.
