Day 1
We took a walking tour led by former street kids who have left their old lives behind and now guide tourists through the streets where they grew up. Their stories brought the rough realities of these neighborhoods to life, showing us a side of Nairobi we would never have seen on our own. It was raw and eye-opening, revealing both the struggles and the resilience of the people who live there. Despite the harshness, the experience was unforgettable, and our guides made us feel safe and welcome throughout. We even ended the day in a local bar, where I tried my first African shot and beer—a moment of laughter and connection. Overall, it was an authentic adventure that left us with a deep appreciation for the city and its people.

Day 2 - Safari in Kenya: A Life Changing Experience
On our second day, Stephen from Image Travel Limited picked us up for our safari, and he turned out to be the perfect guide. His knowledge, enthusiasm, and genuine care made the next four days extraordinary as he brought every sight and experience to life. We felt incredibly fortunate to have shared this unforgettable adventure with him.
Our first safari adventure took place around Lake Naivasha, and it was absolutely unforgettable. It combined both a boat and a walking safari, each offering incredible moments that left us in awe. On the boat, we got thrillingly close to hippos, their enormous forms just meters away in the water. Later, during the walking portion, we captured one of our favorite photos ever: hand in hand, standing right in front of a majestic giraffe. The experience of walking among wildlife brought us closer to nature in such a respectful way, and we highly recommend it to anyone looking for a truly unique safari.
Sarova Lion Hill Game Lodge, nestled on the edge of Lake Nakuru National Park, offers a stunning blend of luxury and nature, making it a truly unique destination for wildlife enthusiasts. The lodge provides breathtaking panoramic views of the lake and surrounding hills, allowing guests to immerse themselves in the vibrant ecosystem of this remarkable area. Surrounded by lush gardens, the lodge is often visited by wildlife, including monkeys and various bird species, enhancing the feeling of being in the heart of nature. Guests can enjoy exceptional dining experiences featuring local and international cuisine while watching the sun set over the African landscape. With easy access to game drives and guided tours, Sarova Lion Hill Game Lodge serves as an ideal base for exploring the rich biodiversity of Lake Nakuru National Park.
Lake Nakuru National Park felt like stepping into a dream, especially when we found ourselves face-to-face with the magnificent rhinos that call it home. We couldn’t believe how close we were—just a few meters away from these gentle giants, who grazed without a care in the world. The landscape around us seemed to draw everything nearer, creating a sense of intimacy with nature that was truly special. After a day filled with thrilling sightings, we returned to Sarova Lion Hill Lodge, where comfort and luxury awaited, perfectly complementing the day’s adventures. There, we sat by the fire, recalling every detail, grateful for the incredible views and the sense of connection we felt with the wild.
Day 3-4 - Masaai Mara
It was an early morning, but Stephen picked us up promptly for a quick game drive, which turned out to be another fantastic experience. We saw animals waking with the sunrise, adding a special touch to our day. From there, we headed straight to the main attraction of our safari: the iconic Maasai Mara.
These two days were truly the best we’ve ever experienced in all our travels. Apart from the elusive leopards, we saw every animal we could have wished for—cheetahs, zebras, rhinos, antelopes, hyenas, crocodiles, hippos, and of course, majestic lions and towering elephants. We also had the chance to immerse ourselves in the fascinating Maasai culture, learning about their traditions and way of life. Staying at the Sarova Mara Game Camp elevated everything to a new level—the best accommodation we have ever had. The service was impeccable, the staff wonderfully friendly, and the comfort beyond anything we imagined. The perfect ending each night was falling asleep to the sounds of lions and elephants right outside our luxurious, protected tent—a magical reminder of just how close we were to the wild.
Day 5-7: Zanzibar, here we come!
After an early game drive, we made our way back to Nairobi Airport, where we said our goodbyes to Stephen, feeling grateful for the incredible journey he guided us through. This moment also marked the beginning of the second part of our trip: one dedicated to pure relaxation and indulgence. It was time to enjoy the comfort, sun, and stunning turquoise waters of Zanzibar!
During our two nights in Stone Town, we immersed ourselves in the rich history of the city, Zanzibar, and Tanzania, exploring its fascinating blend of cultures and influences. We visited historical landmarks and museums that provided insight into the island's past as a major trading hub and its significance in the spice and slave trades. In addition to its historical allure, Stone Town surprised us with some of the best vegetarian food we’ve ever tasted, featuring an array of flavorful dishes infused with local spices and fresh ingredients. The vibrant markets and charming street vendors offered an unforgettable culinary experience, showcasing the island's unique flavors. Our time in Stone Town not only deepened our understanding of the region’s heritage but also left us with lasting memories of its delicious cuisine.
Day 7-9: Nungwi
In Nungwi, we enjoyed the most relaxing experience on the island, as this area is less affected by extreme tides, allowing us to swim in the warm waters all day long. Our hotel and restaurant were fantastic, providing a comfortable stay and delicious meals that enhanced our overall experience. One of the highlights of our trip was a boat tour, which turned out to be quite the adventure. We unexpectedly found ourselves caught in a storm while on a small boat in the open ocean, which added an exhilarating twist to our day. Despite the harrowing experience, we were relieved and grateful to make it back safely, cherishing the memories of our time in Nungwi.
Day 9-11 | Competition for Sarova?
Unexpectedly, we had our best time on Zanzibar in Jambiani, where the atmosphere was much calmer compared to other parts of the island. This peaceful vibe made our experience truly special, allowing us to fully relax and enjoy the surroundings. The local villages were much closer to our hotel than in Nungwi, which added to the authenticity of our stay and offered us a glimpse into everyday life on the island. Our amazing experience at Mamamapambo Boutique Hotel completed our trip, providing us with a cozy and welcoming environment. Each morning, we woke up to the soothing sounds of the waves and were greeted by the wonderful and kind staff, who served us a delicious breakfast. This stay ranks as a close competitor to Sarova for the best hotel experience we've ever had.
Day 11-14: Back to Basics (& Amazing Nature)

Back to basics, we decided to embrace a more sustainable lifestyle before leaving our first African experience behind. The Eco Village of Eden Rock proved to be the perfect option for our journey, offering a unique blend of nature and simplicity, along with breathtaking views of the blue sea. The wildlife and friendly dogs of the village enriched our stay, making us feel truly connected to the local culture and environment. Although we didn't have a lot of hot water or electricity, this added to the charm and authenticity of our experience. Living with minimal comforts allowed us to appreciate the beauty of our surroundings, including the stunning coastline and azure waters. Overall, our time at Eden Rock was a refreshing reminder of the joys of sustainable living and the importance of being in tune with nature.
Day 15: Back Home, with a layover in Nairobi
On our journey back home, we treated ourselves to a wonderful hotel during our layover in Nairobi, marking a perfect transition from adventure to relaxation. The service was impeccable, and we were warmly welcomed by the attentive staff, making us feel right at home. The food exceeded our expectations, offering a delightful mix of local and international cuisines that we thoroughly enjoyed. Our room was not only comfortable but also beautifully appointed, providing a cozy retreat after our travels. This luxurious stay was the perfect way to conclude our first African experience, leaving us with fond memories of the continent. We can't wait to embark on more adventures and explore even more of Africa's incredible beauty and culture in the future.
