Welcome to the Pink City of Jaipur

Embark on a journey to Jaipur, the heart of Rajasthan, renowned for its rich heritage, colorful bazaars, and stunning architecture. Also called the Pink City, Jaipur is steeped in history with vibrant palaces and forts scattered throughout its landscape. Whether you are a backpacker on a budget or a cultural enthusiast seeking adventure, Jaipur offers an array of experiences catering to all kinds of travelers. In this guide, we relay our experiences and tips for making the most out of your visit to this enchanting city.

Experiencing the Golden Triangle

Before reaching Jaipur, we kicked off our trip in Delhi, delving into its bustling streets and historic sites, then traveled to Agra to witness the ethereal beauty of the Taj Mahal. Our journey to Jaipur marked the completion of India's famed Golden Triangle, a route that seamlessly integrates India's vibrant culture, history, and artistry. While trains and buses are the most affordable options, we found a taxi arranged through our hostel in Agra to be the most convenient way to travel to Jaipur, allowing us to experience the scenic journey without the hassle of heavy traffic.

A Majestic Stay at Umaid Mahal

Our accommodation at Umaid Mahal epitomized the royal charm of Jaipur. This heritage-style boutique hotel is a gem, with its intricate traditional decor and spacious rooms that transport you to an era of regal splendor. The hospitality is as warm as its ambiance, making it an ideal choice for travelers seeking luxury on a budget. We enjoyed a delightful lunch at the hotel's rooftop restaurant, which served exquisite Indian delicacies accompanied by views of the city skyline.

Exploring Jaipur’s Historical Marvels

Jaipur's historical landmarks are a testament to its rich past, from the towering Nahargarh Fort offering panoramic views of the city to the beautifully situated Jal Mahal, standing in the center of Man Sagar Lake. Each site transmits the splendour of the city’s heritage and is a photographer’s delight. Journeying through the city’s well-planned streets, established by Maharaja Jai Singh II, offers an insight into Jaipur’s architectural brilliance and inviting ambiance.

The Grandeur of the City Palace and Museum

In the heart of Jaipur lies the City Palace, a majestic complex blending Mughal and Rajasthani architecture. Here, the past seamlessly intertwines with the present as some areas are still in royal use, while others are open for public admiration. A visit offers a vivid tapestry of colors, with intricately decorated gates and grand courtyards. Reflecting royal opulence, the museum within showcases a remarkable collection of art and historical relics.

Culinary Delights at Tattoo Cafe

For a unique dining experience, Tattoo Cafe & Lounge offers an excellent spot to savor vegetarian delicacies with stunning views of the Hawa Mahal. This popular vegetarian eatery caters to diverse tastes with its delightful lassis and mouthwatering dishes. After enjoying your meal, do not miss exploring the interior of the "Palace of the Winds" to learn about the use of its more than 900 windows, and complete your day with a visit to the nearby Jantar Mantar with its astronomical instruments.

Venturing to Amber Fort

A short drive from Jaipur, Amber Fort is a monumental testament to Rajasthani artistry and military power. Perched on a hilltop and overlooking the scenic Maota Lake, this fort is a labyrinth of exquisite gardens, vast courtyards, and detailed frescoes. Opt to ascend by foot, allowing you to absorb the mesmerizing surroundings, while respecting wildlife by avoiding elephant rides. Immerse yourself fully in the fort's history and opulent architecture for a truly enriching experience.

Exploring Amer’s Cultural Gems

Amer is more than just a fort; its religious and historical sites cast a magical spell over visitors. The Jagat Shiromani Temple, known for its stunning marble sculptures, is a must-visit to witness the spiritual aspect of the area. Another hidden gem is the Panna Meena ka Kund, a spectacular stepwell that offers an insight into the ingenious water-conservation techniques of ancient India. These sites not only showcase the region’s religious devotion but also its architectural mastery.

Climbing up Amer Wall and Savouring Great Coffee

If you still have energy left, climbing the Amer Wall is a perfect ending to this day. The views over Amer and the nearby mountains from these walls and watchtowers are absolutely breathtaking. Afterwards, rejuvenate with a cup of coffee and a sweet dessert at GARH The Rooftop Café. Situated near the Amer Fort Rickshaws Parking, it provides a serene escape with its rooftop views and welcoming ambiance.
