Enjoy a cruise through Tikapa Moana, the Hauraki Gulf, on a premium cruise fleet as you make your way to the island sanctuary of Tiritiri Matangi. Explore the island's walking tracks, swim or snorkel at the beaches, and discover regenerating native forest and native and endangered species including kōkako, takahē, tīeke, and more.
Tiritiri Matangi Island is a pest-free island that provides a safe haven for a wide range of native species to flourish. Enjoy the time to explore the island's other established walking tracks with dramatic cliff tops, native bush, and quiet beaches. This island feels like another world all easily accessed from central Auckland or Gulf Harbour.
Tiritiri Matangi Island holds precious populations of kōkako, tīeke/saddleback, and tuatara that can’t easily be seen anywhere else around the Auckland region, so glimpsing these rare animals is a highlight for many visitors.
See the oldest working lighthouse in New Zealand and enjoy one of the many beautiful beaches that Tiritiri Matangi Island has to offer (remember to bring your swimwear and a towel!)

The check in was easy. The trip over was smooth. Once you get to the wharf and disembark, the island staff gave us a briefing on the rules of the island. We went up the Wattle track which was very steep and a difficult trek for the older folk and out of shape people but it was full of birds. We arrived at the lighthouse and had a nice hot cup of tea and restroom break and Takahe sightings. We made our way back down to the wharf via the road which is much easier and got all the island birds except the Kokako. We enjoyed our lunch and hung out at the shore until it was time to return. Excellent addition to your trip to the Auckland area.
We loved it but wished we had more time and energy to explore on our own further. A great experience but recommend you take water and own food.
Excellent all round Great bird sightings Loved the signage Enjoyed the bird feeders Very helpful and happy staff - great group of volunteers Information freely given (Except was not given - or maybe missed hearing - that the bay track closed and was directed to beach - too rough for my friend) Throughly enjoyed the day even with gale force winds !!!
It was very interesting. But a bit over hyped as to the incredible island. It is great to have a preserve but more mention of the rarities in advertisement than likelihood of seeing and experiencing.
Fantastic weather, smooth trip out, knowledgeable guide. Time flew. A great day
A lovely day with great organisation by volunteers;Great guided walk also by volunteers with good knowledge and appropriate speed;Beautiful island and cant praise enough the thought and planting effort which has produced this result
it was wonderful to see and hear about how they are working to bring this native area back
Wunderschön! Man darf dort auch schwimmen! Sehr schön
