Your journey begins with a scenic paddle toward Rangitoto Island, as the sun sets behind the horizon. Once on the island, you'll pull your kayak ashore at Rangitoto Wharf and take a short walk to the summit, where you’ll be rewarded with one of Auckland’s most breathtaking sunset views.
Enjoy a relaxed BBQ dinner while taking in the stunning scenery of the Hauraki Gulf. Afterward, your guide will lead you on a peaceful paddle back to Auckland under the stars, with the city lights twinkling in the distance.
This guided tour is perfect for both first-time kayakers and those with more experience. Instruction is provided, ensuring an enjoyable and safe experience. Please note, participants must be physically fit and able to hike 2.5 km to the summit.

I thoroughly enjoyed my time; Tony and Dan are exceptional. I felt secure throughout the entire experience. They possess extensive knowledge of the island's history and are prompt in addressing any misguidance during paddling. The food was excellent, and my group was fantastic. Be prepared to get wet, but I relished every moment and would gladly do it all again. Thank you for this wonderful experience.
It was my birthday and we went together with 2 of my teenage sons and my 79 year old mother. We had a fantastic group of fellow paddlers from UK and US - we are NZ citizens living abroad so it was a great activity to do while we were home. Marco our guide was outstanding. We had a 15-20 knot head wind going over to Rangitoto and all of us in the group had the strength and stamina to make it - egged on by Marco’s gentle encouragement. Definitely not an activity for the unfit - or have a super athlete like my 17 year old to partner with the grandmother. Amazing bbq and hike up the volcano then a tail wind under the stars to paddle back to St Heliers. Would highly recommend, was one of the highlights of our time home in NZ.
Enjoyable paddle and hike. Our guide was very thorough with his safety briefing. We were fortunate to have a nice small group. Would recommend this tour for those wanting an active experience.
I did the sunset kayaking with 2 other guests and it was a pretty good time. I really liked the kayaking during the sun setting as the views were beautiful. I really liked that our guide (Sorry but I forgot his name!) provided us with crocs to avoid getting our shoes wet before our hike. Only a bit of constructive criticism: more food options especially protein for the BBQ (or just more in quantity). To have been told before qs advise to bring and wear swimwear especially when the waters are choppy. Without them, I was soaked and was pretty chilly. Finally, I would have liked the kayaking and hiking to be more relaxed. I felt that we were on a rush the entire time to get the tour over with and didn't really get the chance to take more photos and videos out on the water.

Daniel was an amazing guide! The paddle is 5k each way. The sunset option is by far the best! The return kayak under the stars was amazing.

Amazing experience and one of our highlights visiting New Zealand. Kayaking in the afternoon to Rangitoto was exciting! When we arrived our guides made dinner for the group and enabled us to recharge for a beautiful hike up to the top for an amazing sunset. After we hiked down, we kayaked back to Auckland after dark which was an amazing experience. We were able to see the Christmas fireworks on our kayak ride back which was icing in the cake. So glad we did this excursion!
