With no less than 2 million works of art and artifacts on hand, the Met showcases objects from Ancient Greece and Egypt as well as modern art from Europe and beyond. Your local English speaking guide will be an expert on the museum who will share a mix of historical information, scandalous stories and surprising details with you. At the end, you’ll have enjoyed yourself so much that you won’t even realize how the hours have passed and you’ll be on your way to becoming a local expert yourself.
During this tour, start at the sumptuous Great Hall before moving to the museum’s most important galleries. In Medieval Europe Gallery you’ll learn about the Studiolo from the Ducal Palace as well as armory worn by Henry VIII. The American wing hosts the staircase from the Chicago Stock Exchange as well as the iconic portrait of Washington crossing the Delaware River. Learn about the turbulent and inspiring lives of several European painters including Vermeer, Seurat and Van Gogh in the European wings.
The museum itself has stories to tell and your guide will explain how this American gallery differs from its older European counterparts, especially since it began before the United States was even 100 years old! More than just storytellers, your young, passionate and engaging guide will approach touring in a different way. They will bring a personal touch to each tour, adding their own favorite anecdotes and tips along the way. They are there to listen to you, to answer your questions and to create a dialogue – unlike other tours where they just lecture you as you go along. That’s the whole reason why the private and semi-private tour option are offered, to make sure you get the most possible out of your experience.
This 2.5-hour guided tour runs daily and it includes entrance fees, a professional art historian guide, and private and semi-private tour options. Gratuities, food, drinks, and pickup or drop-off services are not included.

Charlie is an incredible person—full of energy and charm. He shares his vast knowledge of the museum in a fascinating way, engaging visitors and encouraging them to discover the wonders of art for themselves. He is a treasure trove of anecdotes and jokes. My husband, our teenage children, and I all left the museum absolutely delighted.
Great tour with Katherine! She was very knowledgeable, managed to show all of the highlights and made the tour super customizable for me. Would definitely do it again!

Mark V was our tour guide, and he was amazing! His energy was contagious, his guidance was superb, his knowledge was deep, and he brought humor and warmth. Mark V is by far the best tour guide we’ve ever had…anywhere and not just museum tours.
Great tour
Charles is amazing! He really knows his stuff when it comes to art and how it plays out in today’s globalized world. He makes the topic super engaging and throws in fun challenges that get you thinking in new ways. Totally recommend!
We had the absolute privilege of taking a private tour of The Met with Katherine, and it was nothing short of extraordinary. Katherine is a true connoisseur of art—deeply knowledgeable, eloquent, and passionate in a way that brings every piece to life. She thoughtfully curated our experience, weaving in fascinating insights while guiding us through hidden corners and masterpieces we would have surely overlooked on our own. What impressed me most was how attentive she was to our personal interests. She ensured we spent time in the wings that mattered most to me, while still surprising us with treasures and perspectives we never would have discovered without her. Katherine has that rare gift of making the museum feel both intimate and expansive—like walking with a friend who also happens to be an expert art historian. Her warmth, thoughtfulness, and dedication made the experience unforgettable. We left not only more informed, but more inspired. I can’t recommend her highly enough!!
