Minitrekking is one of the most iconic experiences for discovering Perito Moreno Glacier in a unique way: by walking on its ancient ice. This moderately physically demanding adventure combines nature, environmental awareness, and excitement in one of Patagonia's most breathtaking landscapes.
The excursion begins in El Calafate, with a transfer in comfortable buses to Los Glaciares National Park. During the journey, expert guides will accompany the tour, providing information about the region and setting the stage for what is sure to be an unforgettable day.
Upon arrival at Puerto Bajo de las Sombras, you will take a boat trip of approximately 20 minutes across Lake Rico, passing in front of the glacier's majestic south wall. This first encounter from the water allows you to grasp the magnitude of the Perito Moreno Glacier.
On the opposite shore, guests are welcomed by mountain guides and led to a lodge with panoramic views. From there, the experience begins: a hike along the lake's shoreline, with the glacier ever present, followed by an informative talk on glaciology that helps visitors understand this fascinating natural environment.
Upon reaching the edge of the ice, participants put on crampons and helmets provided by the company, and small groups are formed to ensure a safe and personalized experience (one guide for every 10 passengers).
The most eagerly awaited moment comes when participants step onto the glacier: a hike of approximately one hour over an irregular but firm surface, where each step reveals a breathtaking landscape. Deep crevasses, seracs, sinkholes, and small lagoons of intense blue color are part of a constantly changing landscape.
The experience continues off the ice, exploring the periglacial zone and the lateral moraine, which offer panoramic views of the glacier, the mountains, and the lake. The return journey takes guests through the Patagonian Andean Forest, bringing the total hike to approximately three hours, one of which is spent on the ice.
Before embarking on the return journey, visitors enjoy a hot drink and receive a souvenir as a memento of their experience. The return cruise offers one last close-up view of the glacier's imposing walls.
The excursion lasts approximately 10 hours, including transportation, and features a visit to the boardwalks of the Perito Moreno Glacier, where visitors can walk along the various viewing platforms and enjoy unique panoramic views. If guests do not choose the transfer option, the tour lasts approximately 4.5 hours, departing from the port and returning to the same location.
The mini trekking tour takes place in a dynamic natural environment, where conditions are constantly changing, making each experience unique. Provided that safety conditions permit, the activity will take place as planned. We look forward to seeing you!
