The property was gorgeous and the layout with all three pools was incredible. Each pool had its own special feel depending on what we wanted to do each day. The koi ponds were nice and the beach was was beautiful. There were also walking trails that had Iguanas and other animals that were fun to watch. We have been to Secrets Maroma and Playa Mujeres and they are all beautiful but this property seemed to be the most romantic of the three. Snorkeling was also incredible here, you could see Stingrays, Turtles, and many tropical fish very close to the shore. The food and presentation was great, dont skip out on desert it was always worth it. The romantic dinner on the beach was one of the highlights of our trip. The staff was incredible and we have to mention Cesar, Javier, Sergio, and Marlon. We were there for our anniversary and baby moon and they made our trip very special. The photographer Dani was also very good and captured several unforgettable memories for us. We stayed in an ocean front swim out romance master suite and it was amazing!
Nothing
Secrets Akumal is hands down our favorite vacation get away spot! We've now visited the property six times and it just keeps getting better. The landscaping is gorgeous with lush vegetation and flowers which is unlike any other resort we've stayed at. The beach front is very well maintained and the team works diligently to remove any seaweed that washes in. There are three pools that accomodate everyone from the party crowd to those that want to be left alone. Our building concierges, Leidy and Jose Luis, were fantastic! They always greeted us by name and ensured we were aware of all the daily activities. The pool service was absolutely phenomenal!! Every morning when we arrived at the pool, Carrasco immediately found us and set up our chairs with plenty of towels, a table and umbrella. He always asked if there was anything we needed in our room and arranged our luggage pick up on our last day. We also loved our pool server, Orlando!! He was fantastic, friendly and always checked on us. We had multiple restaurant staff go above and beyond to ensure we had wonderful dining experiences with every meal. We'd like to recognize Daniel, Diego and Raymundo at Market Cafe; Balthazar at Seaside Cafe; Wilbert and Guatelupe at Bordeaux; Marisol at Oceana; and Martin and Patricia at El Patio. We absolutely LOVED our wine cellar dinner with Alberto, Paula, Alberto and Israel - the food was outstanding, we had wonderful conversations with all the sommeliers and the recommended wine was fantastic! I'd highly recommend The GM, Rafael Cordova, and his staff went above and beyond to ensure we felt special and appreciated! This resort has truly earned it's 5 star rating and Mr Cordova and team are ensuring they will maintain it!
Everything at this resort was great
The hour drive from the airport
My Fianc and I went for our 7-year anniversary celebration as well to check out the resort for a potential wedding venue for 2024. We stayed for a total of 4 nights. Once we arrived, we were given warm towels to clean our hands and champagne as a refreshment prior to checking in. Checking in was pretty quick and efficient. We cannot recall the name but someone from VIP desk had told us there was going to be a celebratory complimentary lunch as the hotel had turned 7 years since being open as well as a tour. If we signed up, we'd get one out of three options of gifts for our time. My Fianc and I thought nothing of it and signed up for the complimentary lunch and tour. The Bellhop took us to our junior suite room. The room was clean. Since we got there pretty late, we enjoyed an average early dinner at "Seaside Grill" and service was great. We also enjoyed the theater events and majority of staff members were always helpful and very nice. We ended up at the spa after a grueling 3-hour sales pitch-- massages were average as well. I wish they had told us bathing suits were a necessity so we could enjoy the sauna and quiet area they take you to prior to the massage session. Out of the 9 restaurants we only tried Portofino, Coco Cafe, Bordeaux, Seaside Grill, & Market Cafe-- Service for the most part was good however, we were not impressed with any of the meals or food choices. For the "Himitsu" restaurant in order to get full experience you have to reserve.
During our time at the beach, we had salespeople come up to us for $30 snorkeling experience to see the sea turtles. If you are not aware snorkeling is FREE (i.e. the resort provides free life vest and you need to purchase $4 snorkel mouthpiece). At 12pm we went back to the lobby for our complimentary lunch & tour. Once we got to the lobby we are again checked in and information was obtained from our IDs. We were told it would only take 90 minutes of our time. I had an appointment at the spa for hair and makeup trial for my potential wedding for 2024. I was asked to reschedule/cancel as they didn't want us to feel rushed during the lunch and tour. Odd request but ok -- no issues from our side again. Well let's just say this was NOT a complimentary lunch as we were taken to the Buffet for a quick lunch (didn't get to finish my wine & how exactly is it complimentary when we already paid as it's an ALL-INCLUSIVE resort?). The tour was not really a tour-- we were shown a presidential suite only and were later taken to a sales room where Chris and Stefanie proceeded to try to sell us a membership for an obscene amount of money. We discussed and eventually said "No" multiple times. At one point, we explained that our wedding is our main priority, and we could not become members at the moment. Their response was "forget the wedding and envision all these options". We understand that COVID impacted many businesses, however this comment was NOT professional and was EXTREMELY rude. What was meant to be 90 minutes took 3 hours- Imagine that! you are on vacation meant to relax and enjoy your time for a potential 30+ guest event and spoken to in such a way. Out of the whole experience this was the only thing that left a bad taste. So bad, we put a formal complaint to the marketing manager, Noel.
My only regret about staying at this resort is that we didn't book for more time! The staff were excellent, the food incredible, and the facilities extremely clean. We grabbed free snorkel gear from the hotel and would get up early to swim with the sea turtles. I can't wait to visit again!
It's a little far from the airport, but we used AMSTAR for the transfer which was seamless.
The staff are amazing. Everyone we encountered was eager to ensure we were happy, or ask if we needed anything, or were helpful. The resort was extremely clean, and very relaxing. We truly enjoyed our last minute getaway.
If I had to say anything negative, the only thing is the food was just eh. But take that with a grain of salt; we live in New Orleans where food is extremely seasoned and its a big foodie city. I realize resorts have to cater to the masses.
The service is amazing and the resort is beautiful
