You've arrived in Rome!
After checking into your hotel, walk along the Barberini streets and hop on the Barberini Metro over to try Bonci Pizzarium. This gourmet pizza by the slice, known as "pizza al taglio," is a must-try for pizza lovers, offering a variety of fresh, creative toppings—perfect for a quick snack on the go. Harsh opinion alert: Tyler and I both agree that New York pizza might have Rome beat, though the pasta in Italy definitely takes the cake! This restaurant is great for convenience as it's close to the Vatican Museums.
After a quick bite, visit the Vatican Museums
Head to the Vatican Museum! It was closing for us, which turned out to be a blessing as the lines were super short. If you're visiting the Vatican, don’t be swayed by the many tourists giving out misinformation around the entrance—always ask a staff member if you're unsure where to go. Despite what others might say, stick to the line you’re directed to by staff so you can enter the beauty of Vatican City without confusion. The signs are straightforward, but for some reason, people seem to get it twisted! 🤣

Did you know that Vatican City is technically a separate country? Inside, you’ll find the most incredible artwork and sculptures, including masterpieces by Michelangelo, especially in the Sistine Chapel. I’m glad I experienced Vatican City—its art is truly angelic—but I think I would have felt overwhelmed during the day when it can get quite crowded. If you don’t like feeling like sardines in the summer heat, I’d recommend going later in the day when it’s starting to clear out.
My Dress Code Faux Pas! Learn from my mistakes!
I wore a little red dress that showed both my knees and shoulders, which, in hindsight, wasn’t the best choice. While no one gave me strange looks and I wasn’t denied entry, I was asked to cover my shoulders with a shawl before entering the Sistine Chapel. The staff were really kind about it, but I’ve heard stories of people being turned away for not dressing modestly or even scolded by nuns! It’s better to be prepared. Modesty is expected due to the religious significance of the site. Live & learn y'all.
Visit Saint Peter's Square
After leaving the Vatican, cool down with a refreshing lemon gelato and take a leisurely stroll through St. Peter's Square to admire its magnificence.
For dinner, head to Osteria del Commari, a cozy, traditional Roman osteria that's perfect for unwinding after a busy day of sightseeing. Try the spicy Pasta all’arrabbiata or the classic cacio e pepe—a must-have in Rome, especially since this dish isn't as prominently featured on menus in regions like Sorrento, where local specialties from the Campania region take center stage. After dinner, take the metro back to your hotel and enjoy a well-deserved rest.

Day 2: Sunrise at the Trevi Fountain & Exploring Rome
Start your second day in Rome bright and early by waking up at 6:00 AM to visit the Trevi Fountain at sunrise. This is the best time to go if you want to avoid the crowds and capture some stunning photos of this iconic Baroque masterpiece.

Legend has it that if you toss a coin into the fountain over your left shoulder, you're destined to return to Rome—so be sure to make a wish while you're there. Get your camera ready, and if you're lucky, you might even find a helpful Instagram-savvy passerby to snap the perfect shot!
TAKE A NAP, BEAT JET LAG!
Traveling to Rome means you'll be walking thousands of steps per day, so managing jet lag is key. After your early morning visit to the Trevi Fountain, plan to take a long nap to help adjust to Italy's time zone. This will allow you to stay up late and fully enjoy your evening without feeling overtired.
Roam the streets & enjoy the arcitecutre
Next, enjoy a late lunch at Osteria da Fortunata. While it may be a bit touristy, the food is fantastic, and you'll get to watch pasta being made fresh right in the window—a real treat! Don't miss trying the vintage lemonade, a delightful part of the meal that adds a nostalgic touch to your dining experience.
After lunch, head to the vibrant Trastevere neighborhood by crossing the Ponte Sisto bridge. This area is known for its lively atmosphere, with street musicians, love locks on the bridge, and authentic Roman streets. In Trastevere, you'll discover the true essence of Roman life as you wander through charming alleys, quaint trattorias, and beautiful churches like Santa Maria in Trastevere. Take your time exploring vintage shops and soaking in the local vibes. As the day turns to night, experience Trastevere's thriving nightlife, with countless bars, cafĂŠs, and restaurants where both locals and tourists gather to enjoy the evening.
End your day with a visit to the Colosseum to admire its grandeur as the sun sets. If you're lucky, you might even catch a live violinist playing in the background, adding to the magical atmosphere. The ruins, lined with statues of prominent figures from the past, are a history buff’s dream. The Colosseum, once the site of gladiatorial combat and public spectacles, stands as an enduring symbol of the Roman Empire’s might and architectural genius.

Afterward, treat yourself to another gelato and climb the Spanish Steps. At the top, you'll find a bar where you can enjoy a drink while taking in the stunning city views before heading back to your hotel.
