Arriving in Hong Kong is like stepping into a world where the East meets the West in the most harmonious way. Our journey began from Shenzhen, China, with a swift 50-minute bullet train ride to West Kowloon Station, a futuristic marvel situated in the heart of Hong Kong. As you step out, you might notice the British influences that still linger from its colonial past, with vehicles driving on the left and pedestrian crossings reminiscent of London.
Staying in central Jordan Road, we experienced the hustle and bustle of one of the city's busiest areas. Our accommodation, Park Yie Hotel, although in an older building, offered a strategic vantage point for exploring the city. With Jordan Station nearby, it was easy to traverse Hong Kong using the efficient Octopus card system.
No trip to Hong Kong would be complete without indulging in its world-renowned cuisine. We made our way to Kam’s Roast Goose, a Michelin-starred establishment famed for its delectable goose dishes. After a lengthy wait, we were rewarded with a feast of glistening roast goose and succulent suckling pig, savored alongside Hong Kong's traditional milk tea.
For those seeking breathtaking city views, a visit to Victoria Peak is a must. We boarded the historical Peak Tram early in the morning to beat the crowds and marveled at the soaring skyscrapers beneath as we ascended. At the top, the Lugard Road Lookout Point offered unparalleled views, evoking a serene jungle amidst urban splendor.
For breakfast, we ventured to Capital Cafe, famed for authentic Hong Kong delights. From scrambled eggs served in a classic style to the irresistible Hong Kong milk tea, the flavors were both comforting and exotic. The bustling ambiance added to the charm, making it a quintessential Hong Kong dining experience.
No visit to Hong Kong is complete without a ride on the iconic Star Ferry. As the sun sets, the city’s skyline lights up, offering an unforgettable vista from the water. We also strolled along the Avenue of Stars, a tribute to the city's rich cinematic history, featuring handprints of movie stars and a statue of the legendary Bruce Lee.
Hong Kong isn’t just a concrete jungle; it boasts lush green spaces and hiking trails perfect for a relaxing escape. We explored the verdant lungs of the city, discovering serene parks and nature spots that offer a brief respite from the urban intensity. The friendly locals and the seamless blend of modern and tradition make Hong Kong a city of contrasts.
